On 26 August 2010, the Working With Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Bill 2010 was tabled by the ACT Government. This bill means that, for the first time,
individuals in the ACT who are going to work with vulnerable adults, not only children, will be subject to background checking.
This bill will see the centralisation and standardisation of the background checking system in the ACT across private employers, government agencies and community groups.
